LOCAL ISSUES, Northern Tokharistan. Uncertain ruler, circa 600-680. Drachm (Silver, 32 mm, 4.03 g, 10 h), imitating a drachm of the Sasanian king Kavadh I (1st reign: 488-496; 2nd reign: 499-531). Sasanian-style bust to right, wearing a winged buffalo crown; before head, a distorted Pahlavi word; three crescents in outer margins. Rev. Fire altar with ribbons, flanked by two attendants; above altar, star and crescent; to left and right, distorted Pahlavi words. Vondrovec 263. Lightly toned. Areas of weakness and with minor edge cracks, otherwise, very fine.
